Customer testimonials
There are many advantages to Tabless batteries.
We didn't just test the new tabless batteries in the laboratory. We were on construction sites and in workshops and tested the batteries in demanding applications. The customers' verdict is clear: more power, shorter charging cycles and higher temperature resistance. In the usual Festool quality!

The familiar Li-HighPower batteries use classic round cells that only have one tab per pole. The current accumulates there and this leads to a high internal resistance and thus to increased heat generation. Heat in the Battery pack affects the running time and service life of the battery: It simply switches off if it overheats during use (shortened runtime, although the Battery pack would actually still have remaining capacity). br]
Tabless round cells, on the other hand, have numerous tabs: the current can flow to the terminal via several paths, which significantly reduces internal resistance and heat generation. Tabless: You can compare it to a multi-lane motorway on which traffic flows better and there are no traffic jams.
The design of the tabless cells offers numerous advantages
Tabless Battery packs
- provides a performance boost,
- ensures longer running times, slower decline with time than batteries with classic cells,
- offers better performance at very high and very low outside temperatures and faster charging than conventional Battery packs.

Extra Power
This abbreviation will also be found on the battery packs in order to identify them visually and to be able to distinguish them quickly from the previous Li-HighPower battery packs.
The new tabless cell technology has positive effects on all 18V cordless tools: It is a "power upgrade" for the entire Festool 18V cordless tool portfolio.
We are converting the previous 4.0 Ah and 8.0 Ah Li-HighPower battery packs to tabless technology. These will then be available as TBX 4 and TBX 8 Battery packs. The new TBX battery packs completely replace the previous Li-HighPower battery packs and are not an addition to the battery pack portfolio.
No, the Tabless Battery packs will not cost more than their predecessors. We pass on the technological advantage of the Tabless Battery packs to our customers at no extra charge.
No. All 18V chargers can still be used. The fastest charging times are achieved with the SCA 16 Charger.
No! The interface of the Battery packs does not change. The TBX battery packs can be used with all Festool 18V cordless tools, just like the previous Li-HighPower battery packs with 4.0 Ah and 8.0 Ah. Other features such as the Bluetooth functionality or the rubber coating on the battery pack are also retained.
The biggest change inside the battery pack is the use of tabless cells. On the outside, the tabless battery packs will be given a new label so that they can be quickly distinguished from the previous Li-HighPower battery packs.
This is due to the cell dimensions used in each case:
4.0 and 8.0 Ah Battery packs -> 21700 cells
3.0 and 5.0 Ah Battery packs -> 18650 cells
In the power tool range, larger volumes run on the 21700 cells. Accordingly, innovations are also introduced earlier. For this reason, we have initially equipped the 4.0 Ah and 8.0 Ah Battery packs with the new cell technology.
With the introduction of the tabless battery packs, we have streamlined the battery pack portfolio so that we offer exactly the battery packs that are ideal for the individual tools and the respective applications. We recommend the 5.0 Ah Battery pack for machines that require a good balance between performance and ergonomics as well as runtime requirements. It provides sufficient power for these tools (in this case more than the TBX 4 Battery pack), but is also lighter than the TBX 8 Battery pack, making work a little easier.
